On 6 November 2018, Ciné-ONU will be screening: ‘Under the Wire’ to mark the‘International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists’.
The film is about the war-correspondent Marie Colvin and photographer Paul Conroy. On 13 February 2012, they entered war-ravaged Syria to cover the plight of civilians trapped in the besieged Homs, under attack by the Syrian army. Only one of them returned. Based on Conroy’s book Under the Wire, the film is a gripping account of the triumph of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity. This screening will be shown in partnership with the UK Representation to the EU at Cinéma Galeries in Brussels.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with guest speakers: Chris Martin, Director of 'Under the Wire', Zaina Erhaim, Senior Media Specialist with the Institute of War and Peace Reporting, and Saorla McCabe, Programme Specialist for the Division for Freedom of Expression at UNESCO. Deborah Seward, Director of UNRIC, will moderate.
