On the 23rd of October, the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Development Cooperation, Digital Agenda, Telecom and Post, Alexander De Croo, gave a lecture about the United Nations at his former high school, the GO! Atheneum in Ronse.
'Back To School' is an initiative of the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) in Brussels, which takes place annually on the 24 October to celebrate UN Day and to mark the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. In addition to the Minister, a total of 25 staff members within the UN system in Brussels visited their old school as part of the initiative, to inform and engage pupils in secondary education about the UN and the work that the Organisation carries out.
Minister De Croo said that "it is always nice to return to your old school". He gave an enthusiastic lesson in Ronse about the history and the main organs and work of the UN. In his presentation he underlined the important role the UN plays today, especially within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.
