The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr Peter Thomson, participated in the opening of the 105th Session of the Council of Ministers of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) taking place in Brussels. In his remarks to the participants, the PGA stated that “it is a central responsibility of our generation of legislators and bureaucrats to create the conditions that lead to a future on this planet that is safe, secure and prosperous for all our children and grandchildren”. The PGA urged the ACP leaders to take key steps to drive a smart and integrated approach to implementing the SDGs.
The PGA also had a bilateral meeting with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Mr. Didier Reynders. Mr Thomson thanked Belgium for its strong commitments towards the upcoming Ocean Conference and its voluntary pledge to combat marine litter.
The remaining part of his programme includes a number of bilateral meetings with members of the European Commission during his two-day visit.
