On Human Rights Day, 10 December 2016, the UN Human Rights Office launches its “Stand up for someone´s rights today” campaign.
“We want to encourage, galvanise and recognise what you do in your daily life, along with millions of other people around the world, to stand up for human rights – in your workplace, on the sports field, at school, in the street, wherever you are,” the Human Rights office says in a statement.
Human Rights day is the kick-off for a year-long campaign to call on people to step forward and take action in defence of human rights. Ideas and suggestions for actions can be found on the campaign website: http://www.standup4humanrights.org/
In Brussels, the United Nations and the European Union celebrate Human Rights day on Tuesday 13 December 2016 with an event also called "Stand Up For Someone's Rights Today"at Bozar at 19:00. The event features a performance by Refugees got Talent as well as interactive talks on social inclusion from Duo for a Job and Dare to be Grey.
The event is organized in cooperation between UNRIC, the European Commission, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Together – respect, safety and dignity for all - Campaign on refugees and migrants.
