6.9.2016 – A photo contest themed “My View on the Sustainable Development Goals” is being hosted by the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Japan and Sophia University, with the special co-operation of Getty Images. This contest is open to graduate, undergraduate, and vocational college students from all countries and applications are open from now until September 19.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) officially came into force on 1 January 2016, having been adopted at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015. They represent an action plan for solving global challenges by 2030, through 17 goals to address poverty in various forms, fight against inequality and address climate change.

This is the first SDG contest of its kind among the 63 UNIC offices network around the world and the United Nations Department of Public Information (UN-DPI). It is sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Global Compact Network Japan (GC-NJ).

Through its theme, the contest aims to encourage students to reflect on the Sustainable Development Goals, communicate their feelings in a photograph and share it with many other people.
