27.07.2016 – "Sport is also an important enabler of sustainable development. We recognize the growing contribution of sport to the realization of development and peace in its promotion of tolerance and respect, and the contributions it makes to the empowerment of women and of young people, individuals and communities as well as health, education and social inclusion objectives", Declaration of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On 27 July at 8:00 p.m. the Inter Milan Italian soccer team will be in the NYC area to play a friendly game against Estudiantes De La Plata (soccer team of Argentina) at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.

The following day, the Mission of Italy to the United Nations and the famous "Internazionale Milano" Football Club are organising the event “The Power of Sport to Change the World, Fostering the SDGs”, as a further contribution to affirm the role of sports in promoting and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

F.C. Internazionale will give voice to its champions to stress the importance of football as a high-impact tool in humanitarian, development and peace-building efforts. Speeches will be made at the event by UN Special Envoy for Youth, Mr. Ahmad Alhendawi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, Mr. Inigo Lambertini and Inter Campus partner, Youri Djorkaeff.

The Inter Milan club has always had a long lasting relation with the UN and its agencies, demonstrating an outstanding commitment toward relevant human themes. The Inter Campus project, an on-field prominent program born in 1997 and nowadays running in 29 countries, is a concrete expression with this regard.

Sport has proven to be an extraordinary tool in promoting peace and integration, as recognised in numerous Resolutions of the General Assembly as well as in the memorandum of understanding signed between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations. The contribution of the Olympic movement, to whom Inter Campus is a partner on a local base (CONI), calls to strengthen efforts around sport-based initiatives that encourage social and economic evolution.
