24.05.2016 – UN Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) Magdy Martínez-Solimán and State Secretary Friedrich Kitschelt of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development signed a Statement of Intent today. The statement outlines the support by the German Federal Government to the SDG Action Campaign establishing a Global Campaign Centre in Bonn.

It is envisaged that the German Government will support the SDG Action Campaign with a budget of 3.5 million Euros to promote global activities and to establish the Global Campaign Center in Bonn.

“The signature of the Statement of Intent sends a strong signal about Germany's commitment to the SDGs”, said ASG Martínez-Solimán who also serves as Assistant Administrator of UNDP.

The new home to the Global Campaign Centre will be ‘Haus Carstanjen’ in which the recently inaugurated Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development of the UN System Staff College also has its offices. This will ensure great synergies between the two UN entities explicitly focusing on the 2030 Agenda.

“The settlement of the SDG Action Campaign stands for another milestone in the relevance of Bonn being at the same time a UN city and becoming furthermore a global hub for sustainability. The Campaign’s activity corresponds with Bonn’s slogan 'Shaping a Sustainable Future’”, State Secretary Kitschelt pointed out.

The Global Campaign Centre will be fundamental to deliver its mandate inspiring people’s actions on the Sustainable Development Goals. It will provide cutting-edge advocacy support, big data expertise and analysis for Member States and partners across the globe. In addition to the Global Campaign Centre, the SDG Action Campaign will maintain a presence in New York to keep a strong link to the Executive Office of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the UN Development Group management process.
