Elyx started the week in Ghana, where the Digital Ambassador visited Cape Coast castle with local ILO staff. The castle reminded Elyx of the horrors of the Transatlantic slave trade and Elyx was glad to learn that the ILO launched the End Slavery Now campaign, which aims to end modern forms of slavery. On Tuesday, Elyx arrived in Greece. As the birthplace of democracy, Greece was the perfect place for Elyx to celebrate the International Day of Democracy. Elyx spent the day exploring the historic centre of Athens and visited the Ancient Agora, the very place where Athenian democracy originated. (Learn more about the visit here)
Next, Elyx went back to Brazil for a second visit. This time, the ambassador travelled to Redonda, a small lobster fishing village, whose trade is threatened by the fishing industry. (Learn more about the visit here)
On Thursday, Elyx travelled to Austria, where the ambassador visited the “UN City” and met with UNODC and IAEA. They told Elyx all about the Blue Heart Campaign against Human trafficking and the IAEA’s contributions to peace and security. (Learn more about the visit here)
From Austria it was only a short trip to Czech Republic. In Prague, Elyx paid a visit to the UN70 Exhibition organized by UNIC Prague and spent some time admiring UNESCO heritage sites. (Learn more about the visit here)
Elyx will spend the weekend in the Middle East. On Saturday Elyx will be in Jordan and Sunday the Digital Ambassador will visit UNRWA projects in the region. Next week Elyx’s trip around the world will lead the ambassador to The Netherlands and Central African Republic!
