31 March 2014. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will arrive in Belgium 1 April on a three day visit.
Climate change is expected to be among several important issues on the agenda. The Secretary-General comes to Brussels after a visit to Greenland last week where he saw the impact on climate change with his own eyes. He will give a speech, "On the road to Paris 2015: Towards a new Global Climate Deal", (3 April) at the Policy Spotlight organized by the Friends of Europe.
He will also participate as the Guest of honour in the 4th EU-African Summit (2 April), as well as attend a mini-summit on the Central African Republic and have bilateral talks with several European and African leaders.
During his visit Mr. Ban will have meetings with Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council and with José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission and commissioners Janez Potočnik (Environment), Andris Piebalgs (Development) and Connie Hedegaard (Climate Action). He will also have meetings with High Representative for Foreign Affairs Baroness Catherine Ashton and Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament
He will also meet Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo and Dider Reynders, Minister of Foreign Affairs and King Philippe of Belgium.
In addition Mr. Ban will attend a High-level breakfast session on Health in the Broader Development and Post 2015 Agenda (3 April) at the invitation of the Roll Back Malaria partnership.
