UNRIC will launch the first Ciné-ONU in London, with the UK premier of A Whole Lott More.

The first ever UK Ciné ONU marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities Monday 18 November and is in partnership with BRITDOC.

A film by Emmy nominated director, Victor Buhler, A Whole Lott More is the story of three people: Kevin, TJ and Wanda, who all have developmental disabilities and are trying to secure a stable career for their future. For them, work is much more than just a monthly pay cheque. It is a chance to be independent and included in society.

Although set in Toledo, Ohio, the questions raised by the film have strong parallels with issues faced by the UK, where over a million disabled people who would like to work are currently unemployed and those who do work, earn less than the average non-disabled worker. A recent report by Scope revealed that disabled people in the UK are twice as likely to live below the poverty line as the rest of the population. Therefore, the questions raised by the film are universal: are we offering the right support for disabled persons? Can we do more?

To help explore this topic further, the screening will be followed by a Q&A that will include one of Britain's most famous paralympians and broadcaster, Ade Adepitan, as well as director, Victor Buhler; the Guardian's social policy editor, Patrick Butler; Dima Yared, Human Rights Officer of OHCHR Regional office for Europe; and moderated by the Chief Executive of BRITDOC, Jess Search.

With a fantastic film and panel Ciné-ONU is set to make a great impression in the UK!

The event will take place on Monday 18 November, Kings Place, London - click here for tickets and more information.

CINE-ONU is a Europe-wide initiative of United Nations film screenings and conversations on world issues. For more information about future screenings, please follow this link.
