20 February is World Day of Social Justice (
). The observance of the day should contribute to the efforts of the international community in poverty eradication, promotion of full employment and decent work, gender equity and justice for all.
In his message for the day, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reminds us that "as we seek to build the world we want, let us intensify our efforts to achieve a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable development path built on dialogue, transparency and social justice"; warning however that "growing inequality" undermine those efforts.
For the United Nations, the pursuit of social justice for all is at the core of our global mission to promote development and human dignity.
The Brussels based United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe - UNRIC provides information on UN activities to the countries of the region.
