UNFPA has launched a new, social media based, campaign to raise awareness about its work regarding maternal health in humanitarian settings. Nowhere in the world is the risk of dying in childbirth greater than in disaster settings. Here, one in five women are likely to be pregnant. Mothers and babies are cut off from health care and exposed to trauma, malnutrition, disease and violence - putting their lives in great danger.
'Safe birth. Even here.' is asking for your help to raise awareness, by donating a Safe Birth Kit or by sharing the good news of a safe delivery from a disaster location.
Maternal deaths soar in disasters - yet they can be prevented. The international community must be made aware of the urgent needs of pregnant women in crises settings, so that more can be done to save lives.
UNFPA works to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
