World Drug Campaign - UNODC

UNODC World Drugs CampaignSunday, 26 June, is the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is leading a global campaign to raise awareness about the major challenges that illicit drugs represent to society as a whole, and especially to the young. The goal of the campaign is to mobilize support and inspire people to act against drug use.

The state of the world drug market will be unveiled in the 2011 World Drug Report (WDR) to be released by UNODC on Thursday 23 June 2011. Being launched simultaneously in London and New York this annual report highlights developments across the global drug market to explain the factors that drive the world's consumption, production and trafficking of illicit drugs.

You can watch the WDR 2011 launch live online - The World Drug Report will be launched in NYC by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov, GA President Joseph Deiss, Goodwill Ambassador Christopher Kennedy Lawford and the Russian and US Drug Tsars Viktor Ivanov and Gil Kerlikowske.

Join the launch virtually from 10h00 NY time on

A new theme has been launched for the 2011 World Drug Campaign and you are encouraged to adopt this message into your anti-drugs work. The theme “Global Action for Healthy Communities Without Drugs” reinforces the role that communities play in addressing society’s drugs challenge and highlights the necessary involvement of families, schools, and communities.

UNODC encourages as many awareness-raising activities as possible around the globe and invites individuals, non-profit organizations, the private sector and Member States to get involved by:

  • Organizing outreach or institutional events to mark 26 June, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
  • Spreading the word about the campaign through your own networks and contacts
  • Using the campaign slogan and logo in promotional products, websites and social media
  • Donating funds to your local NGO in support to drug prevention and treatment efforts, or making in-kind contributions to the campaign and related events.

Visit the website and campaign page to get the latest info and campaign material to organize your own events.
