takingroot CINE-ONU presents the screening of the film Taking Root. The film tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai, who sadly passed away on 25 September 2011. Her simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy—a movement for which this charismatic woman became an iconic inspiration.

The film was introduced by H.E Kembi-Gitura, Ambassador of Kenya to the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Mission to EU; and Kriton Arsensis, MEP, with special responsibility for forests.
